" Cats of Istanbul"
This group exhibition traces the personal and collective bonds formed with cats in Istanbul. Each artist, drawing from their own experience, makes visible the shared moments, silent encounters, and small intimacies that quietly weave their way into everyday life in this city.
In Istanbul, cats do not hurry. They wait patiently around fish stalls, observe time in side streets, and—when they feel at ease—silently curl up on the lap of a stranger. Here, cats determine the distance themselves; through their presence, they soften human life and transform space and time. The works in this exhibition carry the traces of this mutual exchange. The images speak not only of what is seen, but of shared silences, trust, and a closeness that needs no words. Cats appear here not merely as figures, but as living vessels of memory, carrying the rhythm of Istanbul. What is expressed is neither simply a city nor an animal, but the feeling of coexisting, sharing the same space, and bonds that emerge naturally.
This manifesto was born to make visible the ancient bond between humans and cats. Our aim is not only to document this relationship, but to reread it, transform it, and translate it into an artistic language. The City of Cats Manifesto is the contemporary artistic echo of this unique alliance between human and animal—of coexistence, unconditional affection, and shared life. This exhibition honors that bond and reconstructs the spirit of Istanbul through the silent footsteps of cats.
